Interested in hosting a local long drive qualifier?
The folowing information will help you beter understand what is involved
in organizin gand running a Local Qualification Event.
Background
The goal of Long Drivers of America, Inc. (LDA) and our sponsors is
to provide local golfers, who think they can hit it big, the opportunity
to visit a local golf facility and take their chance at becoming the longest
hitter in North America. The RE/MAX North American Long Drive Championship
is open to all golfers at every skill level and everyone has a chance to
win a national championship.
Overview-What is needed at each site.
1. Driving Range for warm-up
2. A hole on the golf course or space at a driving range with minimum 350
yards long and 40 yards wide (flat, straight terrain if possible, no obstructions
of any kind).
3. Portable Radios.
4. Minimum 5 hours on a Saturday or Sunday
5. Submit press release to all local newspapers
6. Provide local newspapers with results
7. Site director is in charge of running the event. Little or no measuring
is needed. Each contestant will hit 6 balls, a small marker at longest ball.
8. Volunteeres to help run qualifying-at least three workers provided by
Site Director.
9. One or two specified contact persons that the LDA will be in touch with.
LDA will provide
1. 20 dozen golf balls (if your site has less than 20 tries, these must
be returned to the LDA).
2. Rules and Regulations, Official Scoresheet, entry forms, etc. All paperwork
for the event will be with a detailed Site Director Information Kit, including
press releasses.
3. $10.00 per try. Each competitor will pay $30.00 per try (a try is considered
six golf balls).
4. Posters, with space where you will write in the locatoin, date and time
of teh event.
5. The site wiht the most total tries will win a free trip for two to this
year's finals of the RE/MAX North American Long Drive Championship.
6. LDA will notify the competitors who qualify. After the competition, return
al entry forms and Official Scoresheets to the LDA immediately so
we can send official notification to those who advance to the district qualifying.
This is a must.
The LDA does not require any promotion beyond putting up the posters
and sending out press releases. Any money that is spent by the golf facility
or any other agency to promote this event will not be reimbursed by teh
LDA.
Administration of the Event
1. The Site Director is the person running the event. This may be a
Head Pro or General Manager at the facility, or in some cases a RE?MAX Agent
or a Long Drivers of America Member.
2. The Site Director is ultimately responsible for the successful operation
of the event. All necessary forms and procedures will be provided for your
convenience. If at any time you have questions, please contact the Long
Drivers of America toll free at 888-233-4654.
3. Site Director will be responsible to record all necessary information
on the Official Scoresheet are to be forwarded to the LDA within 5 days
following the event.
4. Each competitor must fill out an entry form and pay $30 (US) to hit six
golf balls. Only one entry form at time of registration.
5. The Site Director has the authority to delay, cancel and/or reschedule
the event if the weather is not suitable or if conditions are unsafe for
the competitors.
30-45 days Prior to the Event
1. Prepare your staff. Be sure anyone answerin gthe phones at the facility
is aware of teh date and time of the event. You may receive numerous calls
from competitors. They may be referred back to our office at any time if
necessary. Have our toll-free number posted by the phones in case the receptionist
cannot answer the cmopetitor's questions.
2. Distribute posters throughout your marketing area.
3. Prepare the Press Release and distribute to local newspapers, radio stations
and golf calendars and golf publications in your area
4. You should receive your Site Director Information Kit, golf balls and
goody bages for the competitors within 3-4 weeks prior to the event.
RE/MAX International and other national sponsors will have "hosts" in some locations. These individuals may contact you in advance to discuss how they can support our efforts to make the enent a success with special promotion, prizes or other creative marketing ideas. Contact the LDA for further information. This is not available in all areas.
