The oversize shaft requires clubmakers to learn and understand a number of different circumstances with regard to building golf clubs. Because the weight of the grips available for use with the oversize butt shafts is so much lighter than the grips clubmakers are familiar with, the head weight requirement to achieve any swingweight for any particular length will be quite different than the head weight requirement for clubs built with normal weight grips and conventional buttt diameter shafts. The following charts are offered as a guideline to help clubmakers predict swingweight when assembling custom made golf clubs built with the oversize butt shafts. Remember, while more grips to fit these .865" butt diameter shafts are likely to be introduced, at this time clubmakers must choose between the 28g Tour Wrap and the 16g Winn Wrap on grip. The head weight vs. swingweight information charts are compiled for both grips to show clubmakers the difference in head weight required to achieve each swingweight level with the different weight grips. The charts reveal head weight required to achieve each swingweight indicated based on using the Golfsmith OVB86 shaft. Other oversize butt shafts may require slightly more or less head weight to achieve the indicated swingweights because of differences in weight distribution of the shaft. For 1/2" longer lengths, subtract 6.5g (avg) from each head weight to maintain the same swingweight. For shorter lengths, add 6.5g (avg) to each head weight requirement to maintain the same swingweight. (Scroll down for charts).
