Recommended Shaft
Installation Procedures
Shaft Preparation:
1. Wear proper eye protection
when trimming graphite shafts.
2. To trim graphite shafts
only use a grit cut off blade. Do not use blades designed for
cutting metal or wood as these blades tend to split or damage
graphite shafts.
3. INNOVATIVE shafts have
tips that are prepped for assembly. For shafts that require tip
trimming, carefully remove the paint from the length of the shaft
tip to be inserted. Do not sand all the way into the graphite
material as this will weaken the tip which can cause breakage.
Head Preparation:
1. The inner edge of the
hosel must be chamfered at a 14 to 20 angle. This will keep the
inner edge of the hosel from rubbing and cutting into the graphite
which can cause breakage.
2. Make sure the entire
inside hosel area is clean of grease, dirt and old epoxy if the
club was previously assembled.
Assembly:
1. We recommend a slow
setting, two part epoxy clubhead adhesive that requires an overnight
cure. Faster curing epoxy can break down under long term stress
and can cause problems for you if the epoxy cures before assembly
is complete.
2. Carefully measure and
thoroughly mix two part epoxy hardener and resin before applying
to the shaft and hosel.
3. Thoroughly cover all
of the shaft tip and inside hosel wall with epoxy before final
assembly.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REASSEMBLE GRAPHITE
SHAFTS THAT HAVE BEEN EXTRACTED FROM OTHER CLUBHEADS. LAB TESTS
SHOW THAT EVEN AFTER CAREFUL REMOVAL UNDER HEAT THE STRUCTURAL
FIBER IS WEAKENED AND CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY IF REASSEMBLED.
