Choosing the Right Shaft Blank
Our shaft blank's frequency is given for a built
"Bore-Thru" type of golf club with a head weight of
202 grams at a 44" finished length with a cord type grip.
Use the following chart to coordinate selection of the proper
shaft blank for building golf clubs with specifications that
differ from our standards. Email

Adjustments to Achieve a Desired
Frequency when Selecting a HP/M Shaft Blank.
Important Step #1: Find the corresponding CPM number
at the desired Frequency Coefficient Measurement (4.0-7.5) FCM
at its appropriate finished length.

Here's our example golfer:
Our Swing tempo is Average , our swing speed is 90 mph, and driving
distance is 230 yards .
The flex we'd like is 6.0 (based on the chart at the top).
Using these numbers, our CPM would be 243. (see bold numbers
above).
Now we need to adjust our numbers to correspond with our HP/M
blank.
In our example we've decided to build a club with the following
specs and need to make our adjustments :
Driver Length: 45"
Driver Head Weight: 194 grams
Our driver has a medium hosel depth.
Remember that our HP/M standard blank is based
on a 44" club with a 202 gram head weight. We've determined
we'd like the frequency to be 243 CPM and we'd like our longer
shaft and lighter head to match our desired frequency and need
to make some adjustments.
HEAD WEIGHT
Add 1 (one) CPM to the CPM number for each 2 (two) grams a head
weighs over 202 grams. Subtract 1 (one) CPM from this CPM number
for each 2 (two) grams a head weighs under 202 grams.
So: 202 grams less 194 grams equals 8 grams. We therefore must
subtract 4 CPMs from our chosen frequency of 243.
243 - 4 = 239 CPM
CLUB LENGTH
Add 3 (three) CPM to this new number for each 1/2 inch a club
is over 44" long. Subtract 3 (three) CPM to the new CPM
number for each 1/2 inch a club is under 44" long.
So: 45" length less 44" standard equals 1 inch variance.
We therefore must ADD 6 CPM to our new CPM.
239 + 6 = 245 CPM
HOSEL DEPTH
Add 3 CPM to the new CPM number for installation into clubs with
a short hosel/blind bore (non-bore thru).
Add 5 CPM to the new CPM nuber for installation into clubs with
a medium hosel/no clubhead insertion (non-bore thru).
Add 7 CPM to the new CPM nubmer for installatoin into clubs with
a long hosel/no cluhead insertion (non-bore thru)
So: 245 + 5 = 250 CPM
You order your HP/M shaft with a new frequency
of 250 CPM to fit a 45 " club with a 194 gram head with
a medium hosel depth at 6.0 FCM.
You now have a "reproducible" shaft that you can match
with other woods in your set.
Let's say you have been blasting your new HP/M
shafted driver and you just won a beautiful new utility club
at your company outing and you'd like to reshaft it to match
your driver.
We'll take these sample specs and match our new
HP/M shaft:
Clubhead weight: 216 grams
Length 42.5 inches
CPM @ 6.0 @ 42 1/2 inches= 264 CPM
Long Hosel Depth (like a Tight Lies)
216 grams less 202 = 14 gram weight variance. Add
one CPM for each two grams over 202 = 7 CPM
264 CPM + 7 CPM = 271 CPM
44 - 42.5 = 1.5 inches Length variance
Subtract 3 CPM for every 1/2 inch the club is under 44"
(-9 CPM)
271 - 9 = 262 CPM
Long Hosel depth: add 7 CPM for long hosel depth:
262 + 7 = 269 CPM
So you would have to order a 269 CPM shaft for
the the above utility club to get the same feel as your 250 CPM
driver.
